Jeffers Residence- New Home Build
Built by Walter Price Design/Build
These pictures are of a home we built for our clients, Dan and Darcy Jeffers in the Cherokee Historic District in Orlando. The home was designed by an architect who specialized in Historic Preservation with whom we had previously worked on other projects. This home was fashioned in the Florida Cracker Style with a wide central hallway running from front to back of the house, sometimes called the dog-trot. Staying period correct, on the exterior we used novelty pine siding , exposed rafter tails for soffit, beadboard porch ceiling, tongue and groove pine porch flooring, wood windows and transoms with custom cypress trim made on site. The interior displayed a salvaged heart pine flooring, restored claw foot tub, period correct bath floor tiles, antique dresser vanity for guest bath and five-horizontal panel doors true to the early 1900’s. The owners wanted to add some of their personality to the home which can be seen in the interior stairwell and master bedroom with 2x2 woven wire mesh and cable lighting in dining and kitchen areas. We also used custom birch plywood cabinetry with black epoxy resin countertops, slate tile and curved glass block wall for master shower. Walter Price also built the dining room table from the reclaimed heart pine flooring at the owner’s request. And a pair contemporary black resin and reclaimed pine end tables in living room.
Winter Park, FL Remodel and Additions
This late 1920's home located in Winter Park, FL had been remodeled several times over it 80 years. The new owner consulted with Walter Price regarding repairs and additions. Walter advised the owner that structural foundations repairs were needed prior to any additional work could be started. After the foundation repairs were completed, the owner and our design team worked to utilize existing spaces, and adding a 2 bedrooms and 2 bath wing for guests and a large outdoor entertaining kitchen with a spa and pool. Improvements made to the existing house included a wall taken down in the kitchen family room area to allow a view of the pool and much needed natural light into the space, damaged stair treads and risers were replaced with to matche existing, an office space was created in a hallway, deteriorated exterior iron trim was replaced, and 2 existing bathrooms were updated. A underused open carport was also enclosed to house a workout room.
Sladek Family Addition and Home Renovation
Repurposing the outdated and unusable screened porch.
This Maitland family with 3 boys needed a larger kitchen/gathering room. When the boys were small, there was barely enough room to sit at the kitchen table for meals and homework. The Stonewood subdivision in Maitland, FL consisted of muted colored stucco homes with screen rooms and pools. The owner’s kitchen and family room with sliding glass doors needed a drastic updating. The foyer had the dated gold tile floor and rough sawn hand railing to separate the living room. Walter Price Design/Build worked with the family to design an open dining/gathering plan where the family could enjoy cooking , dining and watching football games and keeping an eye on the pool. The slab of the screen porch was raised to create a continuous floor level and a unique ceiling detail with the use of interior columns concealed the old dropped ceiling. Floor to ceiling windows with wood sills at the pool area with a double French door with sidelights filters lots of light and lush greenery from the back yard gardens. Serving area in the dining space allows for entertaining flow and displays owner’s collection of island pottery. The kitchen became large enough for several cooks to prepare and serve as well as a computer station for homework. Ceiling transition concealed with column detail. The kitchen cabinetry and granite countertops give the area a clean contemporary feel. Pool bath doorway was relocated and vanity, lights updated.
Kelly Residence - Home Remodel
A retired Air Force Major and his wife who were relocating from Colorado upon inheriting a 40 year old home situated on Johns Lake in Clermont. The Home was a typical 1940’s concrete block with screened pool and fantastic lake frontage. The couple wanted to create their family home for visiting children and grandchildren. In order to maximize the buildable area on the property, Walter Price Design Build left a few walls standing during the demolition. Since the lot sloped from street to lake, retaining walls and French drains were constructed to move rain water away from the house. The old metal roof back porch was replaced with a lanai to provide an outdoor living area within the screen enclosure and overlooking John’s lake.
